Third Meeting of the Ad Hoc Technical Group for the Action Plan on Health and Resilience in the Americas

Under the leadership of the Chair of the SIRG Ad Hoc Technical Group on Health and Resilience, Dr. Nelson Arboleda, Director of the Office of the Americas of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a new negotiation session for the Action Plan on Health and Resilience in the Americas was held on March 29, 2023.

 

Experts of the Hemisphere continue to contribute to the preparation of this Action Plan, in compliance with the mandates adopted at the IX Summit of the Americas.

Capacity Building Workshop for Women's Organizations in Panama

This event was held between March 27 - 29  in Panama City, Panama, with the delivery of workshops on Incidence, Leadership, and Strategic Planning with a Gender Approach for representatives of 22 women's organizations from 12 countries in the region. The President of the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM), H.E. María Inés Castillo, the Minister of Women's Affairs of Panama, and the Government of Canada participated in the workshop. It concluded with a talk given by one of the VPs of the Panama Canal at these facilities. Additionally, UN Women collaborated with the event.

 

We appreciate the important support of the Government of Canada for these efforts carried out within the framework of a hemispheric project aimed at strengthening the participation of women's organizations in the Summits Process.

Maria Celina Conte, Director of the Summits Secretariat, participated in the MESICIC Special Session on Corruption and Gender

The Summits Secretariat, through its Director, participated in the Special Session on Corruption and Gender within the framework of the 39th Meeting of the MESICIC Committee of Experts, on March 14, 2023.

 

In her presentation, Director Conte presented the key results of the publication “Impacts of Corruption on Women’s Rights in the Americas,” which was prepared with the collaboration of the CIM.

First Meeting of the Ad Hoc Technical Group on Democratic Governance

On the occasion of the Summit for Democracy, the First Meeting of the Ad Hoc Technical Group for the Inter-American Action Plan on Democratic Governance was held on March 28.

 

Representatives of the participating countries and invited experts exchanged recommendations around the theme “Confronting Challenges and Advancing Human Rights: Upholding our Commitment to Democracy in the Inter-American System".

 

The goal of this session was to encourage discussion and further engagement on current challenges and best practices related to defending democracy and advancing human rights, consistent with the mandates adopted at the IX Summit of the Americas.

First Meeting of the Ad Hoc Technical Group on Accelerating the Clean, Sustainable, Renewable, and Just Energy Transition

On March 09, 2023, under the leadership of the U.S. government, the First Meeting of the Ad Hoc Technical Group on Accelerating the Clean, Sustainable, Renewable, and Just Energy Transition was held⚡️.

 

During the session, participating countries exchanged about their energy transition efforts and representatives of JSWG institutions, including all the Group's multilateral banks, presented updates on clean energy transition programs â™».

Tribute to International Women's Day

In the International Women's Day, we highlight the active participation and engagement of women in multilateralism, including in the IX Summit of the Americas Process, that resulted in important political commitments with a gender perspective which are key to ensure gender equality and women's rights as well as their empowerment in the Americas.

Second Meeting of the Ad Hoc Technical Group on Our Sustainable Green Future ♻️

The second meeting of the SIRG Ad Hoc Technical Group on Our Sustainable Green Future was held in Panama City on March 1, 2023. During the meeting, experts from the participating countries, JSWG institutions and other invited entities, including the Panama Canal Authority and the Fonden Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, exchanged recommendations on the protection of coastal ecosystems and sustainable maritime transport.

 

This meeting was held on the occasion of the 8th Our Ocean 2023 Conference, which took place in that country🚢.

Second Meetin of the Ad Hoc Technical Group on Action Plan on Health and Resilience in the Americas

National health experts met on February 27, 2023, to begin negotiating the Action Plan on Health and Resilience in the Americas. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Nelson Arboleda, Director of the Office of the Americas, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

 

The drafting of this Plan results from a IX Summit mandate, in which the Heads of State and Government committed, looking toward the X Summit, to reach consensus on an Action Plan on Health and Resilience for our Hemisphere.

Consultations with Women's Organizations and Dialogue between Women's Organizations and Participating Countries of the Summit Process

The Summits Secretariat held a Dialogue between representatives of Women's Organizations and countries participating in the Summits Process. The objective of this meeting was to present recommendations from a gender equality and rights perspective, for the consideration of the States, in relation to the implementation of the IX Summit Mandates.

 

The recommendations presented by women's organizations are the result of recent consultations carried out with these organizations, as part of the Summits Secretariat's efforts to strengthen the advocacy of civil society and social actors, particularly women's organizations, in the Summits Process.

1st Photography Contest “Buildin a Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable Future”

The First Photographic Contest was designed for professionals and photography lovers to creatively portray realities, challenges and/or solutions for the Hemisphere associated with the priority areas of the IX Summit of the Americas. This effort was carried out jointly with the Art Museum of the Americas (AMA) of the OAS.

Workshop for Strengthening the Leadership of Women's Organizations

The Workshop for Strengthening Leadership was held on February 8 and 9. The Workshop provided tools to women's organizations to advance in building a more just and sustainable future. We appreciate their commitment and active participation in the Summits Process.  👏🌎

First meeting of the Ad Hoc Technical Group for the Action Plan on Health and Resilience

At the IX Summit, the leaders of the Hemisphere agreed to develop an Action Plan on Health and Resilience to be implemented by 2030. In response to this mandate, the First Meeting of the Technical Group in charge of its negotiation was held on February 1.
